One room or one roof
15 Yard Dumpster Rental in Sarasota, FL
The single-purpose container. One bathroom, one kitchen, one condo clear-out, or one single-layer shingle tear-off up to about twenty squares. It is a 10 with taller walls, so it takes more volume without asking the driveway for more length, and it is the size that stops a small job from paying for a big empty box.
A 15 yard roll-off is 16 feet long, 8 feet wide and about four feet tall, rated for roughly two to three tons — four to five pickup loads. It is the one-job box. If your project has a defined edge to it — this room, this roof, this unit — the 15 is usually the honest answer, and it keeps a modest footprint on a villa drive or a condo parking bay.

Why people choose the 15 yard
Roofing is where this size does its best work. Roofs are sized by squares and layers, not by the square footage of the house, and the two numbers are not the same once you account for pitch and overhangs. One square is a hundred square feet of roof surface. A single layer of architectural shingle off roughly twenty squares fits a 15 with room to work, and a second layer underneath means you are ordering for two roofs, not one. Get a count of squares and layers from the roofer before you book — our roofing tear-off sizing guide walks through the arithmetic, and roofing dumpster rental covers how we set a box for a tear-off crew. The expensive local mistake is tile. Concrete and clay tile run roughly three to four times the weight of a shingle square, and Sarasota has plenty of both on the older and higher-end stock. A tile roof that would fit a 15 by volume will be far past a legal payload by weight, so tile gets sized as a heavy load with staged swaps, never as one big container.
Inside the house, the 15 is a room-sized box. A bathroom gut with tile, tub, vanity, drywall and a terrazzo or slab floor patch; a kitchen with cabinetry, counters, appliances and flooring; a flooring change across a couple of rooms. On Sarasota housing stock that means concrete block walls, so you are usually taking out finishes rather than framing, and the debris is denser than a wood-frame remodel elsewhere in the country. If there is tile going out with its thinset bed, or terrazzo coming up under old carpet, keep that in mind before you fill to the rails. Pre-1980 homes routinely carry asbestos in floor tile and mastic, pipe wrap and textured ceilings, and pre-1978 homes carry lead paint under the EPA renovation rule; we cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container, and a survey before demolition is the cheap step. Those rules do get revised, so confirm current requirements with the state and your county before you swing anything.
The third use is the condo and villa clear-out. Sarasota has an enormous stock of villas and condominium units in 55+ communities, and a single unit being emptied — furniture, carpet, closets, the contents of a lanai and a storage cage — is a 15 nine times out of ten. It is small enough to place in a parking bay without blocking a lane, which matters when board approval and often the fire marshal decide where the box goes. Snowbird season runs roughly November through April, and the shoulder weeks either side are the crunch, when seasonal residents open up, clear out and close down inside the same fortnight — our notes on snowbird season and seasonal cleanouts explain why booking early in season is not a sales line. For a first-pass on a larger property see junk removal, and for anything time-critical, same-day dumpster rental is often available.

Will it fit?
Sixteen feet of box, about 60 feet of straight approach, roughly 10 and a half feet of width and 20 feet or more of overhead clearance for the hoist arm. Look up before you pick the spot — low live oak limbs are the constant obstruction here, ahead of service drops and lanai overhangs. Protection boards are standard and matter most on shell, sand and paver drives; a paver drive in Lakewood Ranch or Palmer Ranch settles under a point load rather than scuffs, and the island drives on Siesta Key, Lido Key, Longboat Key and Casey Key sit on sand that gives way after rain. In a condo or villa community, expect to place in a parking area rather than a resident driveway, get board approval in writing, allow for fire-marshal lane clearance, and check the day limit — 55+ associations often cap how long a container can stay. Keep the load below the rails so we can tarp it; a heaped open box takes on serious weight in a Gulf downpour. On east-county and Myakka-side lots, flag the septic field and well head before delivery.
Before delivery, move cars and bins, mark irrigation heads and septic lids, and tell us about new concrete, soft ground, a steep grade or low power lines. Our delivery and driveway protection guide covers all of it.

How many roofing squares fit in a 15 yard dumpster?
Roughly twenty squares of single-layer architectural shingle, which is a common Sarasota roof. Count squares and layers rather than the square footage of the house — pitch and overhangs mean the roof is bigger than the floor plan, and a second layer underneath doubles the debris. Ask your roofer for both numbers before you book. If the count comes back high or there is a second layer, we will step you up rather than send you a second truck mid-tear-off.
Can I put a tile roof in a 15 yard dumpster?
No, and this is the most expensive sizing mistake in the county. Concrete and clay tile weigh roughly three to four times what a shingle square weighs, so a tile tear-off hits a legal payload while the box still looks half empty. Tile gets handled as a heavy load with staged swaps, sized on weight rather than volume. Tell us the roof is tile when you call and we will build the rotation around your crew.
Is a 15 yard big enough for a full bathroom or kitchen gut?
For one room, yes, with room to spare on a bathroom and a comfortable fit on most kitchens. Watch the weight rather than the space: tile with its thinset bed, terrazzo under old carpet and cast-iron plumbing are all denser than they look on Sarasota block-and-slab houses. If you are doing a bathroom and a kitchen in the same push, or adding flooring across the rest of the house, step up to a 20 instead of ordering a second box.
Will a 15 yard work at a condo or villa?
It is the size we place most often in those communities, because sixteen feet fits a parking bay without blocking a drive lane. Placement almost always needs board approval, and the fire marshal may have a say on lane clearance. Many 55+ associations also cap how many days a container can sit, so confirm the rule before you schedule. Association policies change, so get the current version in writing rather than relying on last season's answer.
What if I find asbestos or lead paint during the tear-out?
Stop and get it tested. Pre-1980 Sarasota homes routinely carry asbestos in floor tile and mastic, pipe and duct wrap, textured ceilings and cement-asbestos siding, and pre-1978 homes carry lead paint under the EPA renovation rule. We cannot accept asbestos-containing material in any container, and demolition generally triggers an inspection and notification. Requirements do change — confirm the current process with the state environmental agency and your county before work starts.
