Most people driving through do not register it as a separate place at all, which is exactly why it is worth saying that we work here properly rather than treating it as an afterthought on the way to Venice.

This is older, modest, working Florida. Everything is slab-on-grade. The pre-1980 houses carry the usual cautions — asbestos is a real possibility in floor tile and mastic, pipe and duct wrap, textured ceilings and roofing felt, and pre-1978 stock falls under the EPA RRP lead rule — and we cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container, so a gut here starts with a survey rather than a sledgehammer.

The container work reflects the housing. Full interior refreshes on houses that have not been touched in forty years, re-roofs, carport and lanai rebuilds, mobile home clear-outs and replacements, estate cleanouts when a long-held family place changes hands, and the tree work that follows every wind event. Drives are short and often shell or unpaved, lots are small, and the streets are canopied in live oak, so the container that fits here is usually smaller than the one people ask for on the phone. We would rather swap a 15 twice than fail to place a 30.

Laurel is unincorporated Sarasota County, not the City of Venice and not the City of Sarasota, so a right-of-way question goes to the county — and US-41 is a state route, so a placement near the Trail can involve FDOT as well. On a private drive you generally need nothing. Requirements change, so confirm with Sarasota County before you count on a street set. The two site issues here are ground and canopy. US-41 south through Osprey, or I-75 to exit 195 and west on Laurel Road when the address sits inland. Thirty-five minutes. Season traffic on the Trail through Osprey and Nokomis is the main delay and it is worst mid-afternoon, so morning sets run better. The streets here are narrow, the drives are short and often shell, and the canopy is low in places — tell us the drive surface, the width and any overhanging limb when you book and we will bring a container we can actually place rather than one we have to take away again.

Permits, streets and placement in Laurel

On a private driveway in Laurel you generally do not need a municipal permit.
