Siesta Key is a barrier island reached by two drawbridges — Siesta Drive at the north end and Stickney Point Road at the middle — and from the yard it is about thirty-five minutes on a good morning and considerably more than that on a February afternoon. There is no third way on. The building stock runs from 1950s and 1960s beach cottages and mid-century houses through canal and Grand Canal properties to condo buildings of every vintage along Midnight Pass Road and Beach Road. Everything is slab-on-grade. Drives are short — often shell, brick or paver rather than poured concrete — lots are tight, and the streets off Higel and Midnight Pass are narrow with parking on both sides and heavy canopy in places. 2024 is still the dominant fact here. On top of it, Florida’s milestone inspection and structural integrity reserve study requirements have condo associations here working through balconies, railings, walkways, spalling concrete, waterproofing and re-roofing on a legal timetable. Those requirements have been amended more than once, so an association should confirm its current obligations with its own attorney and engineer.

Nothing on the key happens without planning the placement first. Condo and association work needs board approval for where the container sits, and where a box would narrow a drive aisle or a fire lane it needs the fire marshal’s sign-off too — get both before you book a date, not after. On single family lots, the short shell and paver drives are the constraint: protection boards go down every time, we will set on the firmest part of the approach, and we will tell you honestly if the only workable spot is the apron. Sandy soil and a high water table mean soft ground gives way under a loaded truck, and a beach-side lot after three days of rain is exactly that. Low live oak and Australian pine limbs over narrow lanes are common, and the hoist arm needs clearance well above the height of the truck — tell us where the limb is and we will bring a shorter box rather than cut anything. Siesta Key is unincorporated Sarasota County, so right-of-way approval is a county matter; rules change, so confirm before you plan a street set. Keep vegetative debris as its own clean load, and keep nothing staged where runoff reaches the bay or the beach.

Getting a truck to you

US-41 south to Stickney Point Road and over the bridge for the middle and south end, or Siesta Drive and the north bridge for the Village side. Thirty-five minutes on a clear morning. Both are drawbridges and both back up — Stickney Point in particular in season and on beach weekends — so early sets are the rule here and afternoon windows are a gamble. Permits, streets and placement in Siesta Key

On a private driveway in Siesta Key you generally do not need a municipal permit.
