Junk Removal in Sarasota, FL
Container on the drive and you load it at your own pace, or a crew and a truck if you would rather not touch it. Garage, attic, lanai and shed — the four rooms that fill a Sarasota cleanout.
Sarasota houses are slab-on-grade, so there is nothing under the floor to empty. The volume in a cleanout here comes out of four places plus one off-site: the garage, the attic, the lanai and the backyard shed, plus whatever has been paying rent in a storage unit off Cattlemen Road or Bee Ridge. That changes how the job gets planned. Nobody is carrying boxes down a stair — they are carrying them across a hot driveway in August, which is why we set the container where the walk is shortest and the shade is best.
The Florida attic does its own sorting before you ever get up there. Heat and humidity sitting above a Sarasota ceiling for twenty summers will have already destroyed the photographs, softened the cardboard, released every roll of tape and warped the vinyl. The lanai is the other one, and it is uniquely ours — sun-rotted cushions, rusted furniture frames, faded pool toys and screen offcuts from the last cage repair. Salt air finishes off the patio set, the bikes, the tools and the grill. Our Sarasota home cleanout checklist works the house in an order that keeps the driveway usable.
Then the garage, which is the room that actually stops a cleanout dead. Paint, pool chemicals, motor oil, fuel, pesticides, tires, batteries and electronics do not go in a container, full stop — they go to a Sarasota County or Manatee County household hazardous waste drop-off. Everything else is a simple question of who does the lifting. A container on the drive puts the labour in your hands and gives you a week to work; a crew and a truck is faster and gone the same afternoon. Start with the Sarasota size guide and we will talk it through on the phone.
What Actually Comes Out Of A Sarasota House
Garage Cleanout
The garage is the real problem room in a slab house — paint shelves, pool chemicals, fuel cans, tires, bikes and a decade of boxes stacked along the wall the car never reaches.
Attic Purge
Sarasota attics run brutally hot and humid, and it shows. Photographs stuck together, cardboard gone soft, tape released, plastic totes turned brittle. Most of it comes down as trash, not donation.
Lanai And Pool Deck
Sun-rotted cushions, rusted furniture frames, faded pool toys, screen offcuts and a grill that gave up two seasons back. The lanai fills more container space than owners ever expect.
Backyard Shed
Sheds take real weather here. Rotted shelving, a seized mower, hardened bags of concrete, hose reels and lawn chemicals come out, and the rusted shell often follows them into the box.
Storage Unit Emptying
With no space under the house, rented units carry the overflow. Set a container at home and run the unit down in loads, or we place the box at the facility when management allows it.
Furniture And Mattresses
Bulky, awkward and impossible to compress. Sectionals, recliners, bed frames, mattresses and box springs eat volume fast, so we size these jobs on cubic feet rather than on weight.
Snowbird Turnover
Seasonal residents open up around November and close down through April. The shoulder weeks either side are the crunch, and the container that clears a stored season books out early.
Donation-First Sorting
Anything with life left in it should reach a local charity before it reaches the box. We work the container schedule around a donation pickup instead of burying usable furniture.
Sizing A Cleanout Container In Sarasota
Most Sarasota junk jobs land on a 15 yard. It fits a villa driveway with room to walk past it, the side walls are low enough to load over without a ramp, and it will take a garage and a shed in one go. Step up to a 20 yard when the attic and the lanai are coming out in the same week, or when a seasonal resident is clearing a full house of stored furniture — sectionals and mattresses swallow volume faster than anyone plans for. A 10 yard is the right box for a single room, a condo set squeezed into a parking bay, or anything dense enough to close out on weight. Tell us the rooms and a rough furniture count and we will size it with you rather than let you guess from a web form.
10 Yard Dumpster
Concrete, pavers, terrazzo, tile, block and fill — weight fills it long before volume does.

Condo and villa placement is its own negotiation in this market. Most associations want the container approved before it turns up, they will nominate a spot in the parking area rather than a driveway, and plenty of them hold you to a delivery window and a set number of days on site. Get the board or the property manager on the phone first — it is a short call that prevents a wasted trip and an angry neighbour. Protection boards go under the rails on every set and we photograph the surface before steel touches it. Paver drives are everywhere here and they will rut if the sand base is wet, so read the driveway protection guide before delivery day. Out on the keys, where drives are short shell or paver, we will often set street-side instead — see permit basics.

Junk Removal Dumpsters FAQs
What can I not put in a junk removal container?
No liquid paint, solvents, pool chemicals, pesticides, fuel, motor oil, batteries, tires, propane cylinders, appliances holding refrigerant, or anything containing asbestos. Those belong at a household hazardous waste drop-off run by Sarasota County or Manatee County depending on which side of University Parkway you sit. Electronics usually go to a recycler instead. Our acceptance guide has the full list, and these rules do get revised, so confirm before loading.
Should I rent a container or hire a hauling crew?
It comes down to time and hands. A container on the drive gives you several days to work room by room, sort donations properly and change your mind about things, and it suits a garage or attic that needs sorting rather than shovelling. A crew with a truck is the better call when the job has to be finished today, when nobody local is able to lift, or when an out-of-state family is handling a house remotely. We do both, and we will tell you honestly which one fits.
Can I get a dumpster at a Sarasota condo or villa?
Usually yes, with a conversation first. Associations here typically want written approval, a nominated spot in the parking area rather than a unit driveway, and a firm start and finish date. Some 55+ communities limit how many days a container may sit. We will work to a delivery window, board the surface, and pull the moment you are done. Ask your manager for the current rule, because association policies change more often than county ones do.
How far ahead should I book during snowbird season?
From November through April, book as early as you can, and treat the shoulder weeks either side as the tightest of all. That is when seasonal residents arrive to open up, clear out what the humidity ruined, and then close down again in spring, and every one of them wants the same week. We hold capacity for same-day and next-day work, but a booked date beats a hoped-for one, particularly on the keys and in gated communities where access is slow.
What should I do with things that are still good?
Route them out first. Sarasota has an unusually deep secondhand market because of the volume of downsizing moves, so furniture, kitchenware, tools, mobility equipment and unopened supplies find homes easily if you give a charity a couple of days notice. We will schedule delivery around a pickup rather than let usable pieces go in the box. Mid-century furniture and period lighting in particular are worth one honest opinion before anything gets tossed.
